Nursing and Medical Skills Training
The Hong Kong Society of Professional Medical Care is a government-registered non-profit charity organization. Our aim is to promote the development of medical and health technologies and continuously attract like-minded medical professionals and technicians, allowing them to develop their strengths, thereby enhancing the quality of health and medical services in Hong Kong and Asia.

Our mission is to improve the service levels of healthcare personnel through training and education, providing quality healthcare professionals to the community to address the manpower shortage in the healthcare industry. We actively collaborate with other community organizations to offer free health seminars and exhibitions, using our professional knowledge to promote the importance of health care to the public and give back to society.

Many hospitals, nursing homes, and medical institutions in Hong Kong are in need of a large number of medical and nursing talents. At the same time, the demand for nursing staff is high, leading to increased workloads for existing nurses. To improve the quality of nursing services, we are committed to enhancing the professional knowledge and service levels of our peers. To date, we have launched multiple continuing nursing education training courses recognized by the Nursing Council of Hong Kong, training a large number of professional nurses. Meanwhile, students can earn continuing professional development credits through our courses and seminars.

Core Courses
1.Phlebotomy Techniques, Venous Catheter Insertion and ECG Operation Diploma Course (160 hours + 250 hours)
Introduction: The Hong Kong Society of Professional Medical Care is an accredited training center of the National Phlebotomy Association. In the healthcare service industry, phlebotomists have become indispensable personnel in public hospitals, private hospitals, medical institutions, and laboratory centers. Professionals in this field must possess a solid foundation of medical knowledge and technical skills to maintain their professional standards. This course is taught by instructors accredited by the International Phlebotomy Association, as well as by a registered medical laboratory technician (MLT I) in Hong Kong, American Heart Association instructors, and recognized phlebotomy instructors.

Course Objectives: To train students to become registered phlebotomists capable of working in public and private hospitals, laboratory centers, or medical institutions. It is preferable for candidates to also hold a Healthcare Support Staff (Clinical Patient Services) certificate.

Course Content:

Part One: Face-to-Face Instruction (160 hours)

2. Basic Phlebotomy Techniques Certificate (30 hours)
3. Advanced Phlebotomy Techniques Certificate (30 hours)
4. Basic Healthcare Personnel Venous Catheter Insertion Techniques Certificate (30 hours)
5. American Heart Association Basic ECG Interpretation and Operation Certificate (Public Version) (18 hours)
6. Occupational First Aid Certificate recognized by the Hong Kong SAR Government (33 hours)
7. American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certificate for Healthcare Providers (7 hours)
Part Two: After completing the seven units in Part One, students will proceed to 250 hours of practice. If the phlebotomy skills of the trainee reach competent (Competence) levels, they will be awarded the Diploma in Phlebotomy Techniques, Venous Catheter Insertion, and ECG Operation, as well as a registered phlebotomist license, becoming a recognized registered phlebotomist by the Hong Kong Phlebotomy Association.

Course Mode: Full-time or Part-time

Course Target: Participants must have a minimum of Form 5 education and possess appropriate proficiency in Chinese and English to perform venipuncture, venous catheter insertion, and ECG operation tasks. If participants are nurses, laboratory assistants, or healthcare personnel, they may choose shorter courses in basic phlebotomy and venous catheter insertion or a comprehensive course that includes basic phlebotomy, venous catheter insertion, and ECG operation.

2. Healthcare Support Staff (Clinical Patient Services) Training Course (230 hours)
Introduction: This course is recognized by the Hong Kong Hospital Authority and aims to provide students with fundamental nursing theories through an intensive training program, along with simulated ward environment practice, enabling students to grasp the reality of hospital operations. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive the Healthcare Support Staff (Clinical Patient Services) certificate, as well as the Occupational First Aid Course certificate and the Automated External Defibrillator certificate recognized by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

Course Objectives: To train students to become Healthcare Support Staff (Clinical Patient Services) capable of working in public and private hospitals, providing nursing services in wards.

Course Content:

a. Introduction to the Hospital Authority and commonly used information
b. Legal knowledge, occupational safety and health, and infection control
c. Basic structure and function of the human body
d. First aid and automated external defibrillator training
e. Patient care skills
f. Nursing skills training
g. Classroom technical practice

Course Mode: Full-time or Part-time

Course Target: Participants must have a minimum of Form 3 education and possess appropriate proficiency in Chinese and English to perform the duties of a Patient Service Assistant.
3. Practical Certificate Course in Injection Techniques (11 hours)
Introduction: This course is designed for individuals needing to administer vaccines or insulin. In addition to introducing injection theory, the course will cover drug classification and storage, as well as techniques for calculating muscle injection doses, to enhance the relevant knowledge and service quality of healthcare personnel.

Course Content:

a. Theory and risks of injection methods
b. Classification and storage of injectable drugs
c. Introduction to injection supplies
d. Insulin injection techniques
e. How to calculate injection doses
f. Dilution and extraction of injectable medications
g. Muscle injection methods
h. Handling needle-stick accidents
i. Managing adverse reactions post-injection
j. Demonstration and practice

Nurse Continuing Education Credits (CNE Pt. 7.5)

Course Mode: Full-time or Part-time

Course Target: Nurses, healthcare support staff, caregivers, clinic assistants, and other healthcare personnel or caregivers.
4. Patient Service Assistant (Anesthesia Assistant) Training Course (150 hours)
Introduction: This course is designed for individuals aspiring to become anesthesia assistants, teaching the basic theoretical knowledge of anesthesia nursing, which helps students master relevant professional knowledge and applications to enhance their work skills. The course content includes knowledge of anesthesiology, as well as the operation of various instruments and related techniques, preparing students for a career in the healthcare industry. This course is a continuation program for those who have completed the Diploma in Phlebotomy Techniques, Venous Catheter Insertion, and ECG Operation and are registered phlebotomists.

Course Objectives: To train students to become Patient Service Assistants (Anesthesia Assistants) and to assist anesthesiologists in public and private hospitals.

Course Content:

a. Anesthesia procedures and precautions
b. Introduction to anesthesia instruments and supplies
c. How to assist with instrument operation
d. Key points for anesthesia assistants
e. Airway and respiratory support management
f. ECG interpretation
g. Understanding anesthetic drugs
h. Basic and advanced life support training

Course Mode: Full-time or Part-time

Course Target: Participants must have a minimum of Form 5 education and possess appropriate proficiency in Chinese and English to perform the duties of Patient Service Assistants (Anesthesia Assistants). This course is particularly suitable for those who have completed the Diploma in Phlebotomy Techniques, Venous Catheter Insertion, and ECG Operation and are registered phlebotomists.
5. Preparation Course for Overseas/Domestic Registered Nurses (Chinese and English Classes) for Hong Kong Registered Nurse (HKRN) Qualification (30 hours)
Introduction: This course is designed for domestic or overseas nurses who wish to obtain the Hong Kong Registered Nurse license. The course focuses on practical nursing skills and solidifies students' foundations, enhancing their abilities to prepare for the local Registered Nurse licensing exam. The course is divided into written and practical classes. A case-based teaching approach will be employed, along with practical operations, to enable students to develop systematic thinking in their studies, enhancing their effectiveness in exam preparation.

Course Objectives: To train domestic or overseas nursing students to obtain the Hong Kong Registered Nurse license and to secure employment in Hong Kong hospitals and medical institutions.

Course Content: - Written Class: Review nursing knowledge and focus on answering techniques

- Practical Class: Aseptic techniques, medication administration, and health assessment

Course Mode: Full-time or Part-time

Course Target: Trained nurses from domestic or overseas who meet the requirements set by the Hong Kong Nursing Council.
6. American Heart Association Basic ECG Interpretation Certificate Course (Healthcare Provider Version) (7 hours)
Introduction: ECG is one of the vital signs of the human body. Currently, having related skills is advantageous for ward support personnel in their work. The course is taught by experienced healthcare personnel, explaining the basic principles and related knowledge of ECG interpretation, assisting nursing staff in enhancing their skills and providing better nursing services.

Course Objectives: To train students to interpret ECGs and identify critical 12-lead ECGs.

a. Basic cardiac anatomy
b. Basic electrophysiology
c. Basic components of ECG
d. Basic ECG measurements
e. Simple ECG analysis
f. Introduction to common arrhythmias on ECG
g. Normal sinus rhythm; bradycardia; tachycardia
h. Atrial premature contractions; atrial fibrillation; atrial flutter
i. Reentrant tachycardia
j. Ventricular premature contractions; ventricular tachycardia; ventricular fibrillation
k. Cardiac arrest; pulseless electrical activity
l. Heart block
m. Pacemaker rhythms
n. Myocardial infarction
o. Daily operation and precautions for cardiac monitors and 12-lead ECG machines
p. Identifying critical 12-lead ECGs

II. Practical Class (Public Version):

Practical operation of 12-lead ECG on simulated patients.

Nurse Continuing Education Credits (CNE Pt. 6)

Course Mode: Full-time or Part-time

Course Target: Nurses, healthcare support staff, caregivers, clinic assistants, and other healthcare personnel.
7. Fundamentals of Medication Use and Dispensing Course (12 hours)
Introduction: This course teaches the processes of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion after entering the human body, as well as their effects and side effects on the body. It also covers commonly used drugs and their effects, and introduces basic dispensing operations to help students grasp drug knowledge and dispensing processes. In addition to everyday pharmacological applications, it enhances students' understanding of the healthcare industry, preparing them for further studies in healthcare.
8. Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate Course
Introduction: The demand for medical laboratory professionals in Hong Kong's healthcare market is continuously increasing. Having specialized training qualifications will provide a deep understanding of job skills and a better grasp of industry developments. The course is taught by professional laboratory technicians. Through theoretical classes and site visits and demonstrations, students will fully master the daily operations of a laboratory, understand the professional knowledge involved, and equip themselves for a career in laboratory work.
